in-person training

The Stony Point Ambulance Corps Youth Squad engages in comprehensive weekly training sessions led by experienced senior members, covering a diverse range of emergency medical topics. These sessions are strategically designed to prepare the youth squad for their upcoming competition in May. From basic life support to advanced medical procedures, the training equips members with practical skills and fosters a strong sense of teamwork. The mentorship provided by senior members not only imparts valuable knowledge but also cultivates a collaborative and community-driven spirit within the youth squad. This holistic approach ensures that the squad is well-prepared and adept in handling various emergency scenarios as they work towards excellence in their May competition.

EMT-Basic class

The Stony Point Ambulance Corps Youth Squad offers a remarkable opportunity for individuals interested in emergency medical services by providing a tuition sponsorship for the EMT-Basic Training at the Rockland County EMS Academy. This initiative not only opens doors to valuable education in emergency medical techniques but also acts as a stepping stone for aspiring EMTs. The distinctive feature of this program lies in its support system, where participants can enroll in the EMT-Basic course with no tuition costs, thanks to the sponsorship provided by the youth squad. In return, participants commit to a specified number of riding hours with the ambulance corps, creating a mutually beneficial arrangement. This approach ensures the development of a trained and skilled cohort within the community, fostering a sense of dedication and service among the youth. The Stony Point Ambulance Corps' commitment to facilitating education and practical experience underscores its dedication to enhancing emergency medical services both locally and regionally.

THE COMPETITION

2024 Competition

This year, the Stony Point team consisted of 6 members;
Hunter Stoll, Emma Tirri, Holly Sten, Victoria Rojas, Erin Bertonlino (V), and Sebastian Sliwecki (V). The team competed and won 1st place for Scenario 2, the medical scenario. And took home 3rd Place overall closely behind both New City Teams. Below is a few pictures from the event.

WHAT IS IT?

Every year, on the first day of EMS Week, the Rockland County Office of Emergency Medical Services and Rockland County EMS Training Academy jointly host the Youth Drill Competition. Teams from Rockland and the surrounding area are sponsored by their corps, and will compete at the Rockland County Fire Training Center. The Stony Point Youth Squad has been honored to compete in the competition since its inauguration. Each team will compete in two separate scenarios, a medical scenario and a trauma scenario. The Drill Committee will "dispatch" each team to their zone, and they have a set amount of time to assess, and treat their patients for their injuries.
